I’m a Medicine Woman, Too! by Jesse Wolf Hardin ~ A book review.
I loved this book! The message is just as important to authentic mama’s as it is to the children. I encourage all mom’s who would love to teach their children self empowerment, self esteem, the courage to follow your passion and purpose, and the amazing importance of positive role models to read and enjoy this wonderful book with your children!
The book is also great for healers of all kinds- especially herbalists! I can’t say enough wonderful things about this book.
This book is going to be a family classic in my home!
From the website:
I’m a Medicine Woman, Too! was originally conceived for children, before realizing the number of adults who would find it inspiring enough to want copies for themselves. Let’s think of it as book for all ages then, with 3 to 5 year olds benefiting by not only by associating themselves with the illustrations but also by having the story read to them aloud; with those aged 5 to 10 already knowing enough of the words to be pulled into the story on their own, and being motivated to ask or look up the definitions of any they’re unfamiliar with; with material not even a quick or critical 12 year old would be bored by; and with artwork and a message that might move even elders to reawaken their neglected aspirations and hopes.
“My initial inspiration,” the author writes, “included not only my daughter Rhiannon, but all those kids who from an early age seem inclined towards self exploration, challenge and growth, sometimes longing for meaning and a special purpose as much as they desire fun and love. This includes the fortunate daughters of herbalists and healers, looking for affirmation, positive archetypes and strong women models to look up to…. as well as all the other little girls who seem called to tend and heal, or who feel drawn to the amazing ways of nature and intimate company of plants. It was halfway through putting this book together that I realized I was actually doing it for every child including little boys – and indeed every person regardless of their years on the planet – who might be able to benefit from its core theme: learning to believe in ourselves enough to dare to live our dreams.”

“The job of the Medicine Woman isn’t just to heal sickness,” I added, “but to help make everything healthier and more beautiful. Each woman works in her own personal ways to both create and improve the world. Each follows her heart, knows her purpose, and answers her special calling. And each must be brave enough to live her wildest dreams, no matter how hard that ever seems.”
“In that case, it must be true…” my little girl said. “I’m a Medicine Woman, too!”
Last I heard you can still get a signed copy if you hurry! Go to the website for more excerpts, photos and details about how to order!
