what I’ve been up to – Tiger Lily Magic

Don’t worry, I haven’t disappeared. It is that time of year again… wild plants galore. Above is a wild tiger lily that has volunteered itself in my yard. Like a child, I have been waiting for days for it to bloom. This is one of my favorite flowers, I wrote about it some time ago on my other blog, you can read the short post here if you are interested.

For those of you who don’t know, I am an herbalist. So this time of year I spend a lot of time outdoors with the plants. I have also been drying medicinal plants, making salves, oils, tinctures, elixirs,  vinegars, freezing plants, making tea smoothies, you name it- working with the plants and lovin’ it.

I have wrote a few quick posts over at The Herbalist’s Path blog, but really, the outdoors and the plants have been inspiring me, not so much staying indoors and writing. Yep, living my passion and purpose!

So my writing schedule won’t be as consistent in the next few months, I will be busy with the yard, harvesting plants, spending time with the kids while the weather here in the Pacific Northwest is a comfortable 70-80 degrees. I absolutely love the beauty of the fall here as well (coming soon)- we usually have weather in the 80’s sometime into October, nice soft breeze, and beautiful autumn foliage. This is the perfect time of year for long contemplative hikes through the woods, It is also the time of year to collect roots of medicinal plants so I will be doing this as well. Most people review their year during the month of January (new years resolutions) but I find myself reflecting during the autumn season, when the plants are ending their life cycle, I am connected with nature so I find my natural body rhythms are more with the plants- seeing them change reminds me of endings, slowing down, taking a brief time for reflection and rest before the nesting of the winter months- and then spring when it starts anew once again!

If I feel that spark, I may just create another fun authentic mama post.. but in the meantime I wanted to leave you with this beautiful photo of the tiger lily.

Angie–

More and more there are similarities! :-) The autumn is my favorite time of year. I was just discussing that with my girls yesterday– and telling them exactly what you are saying! I find myself more in tune with myself and the natural surroundings this time of year as the harvet approaches and the nature around us is preparing to sleep for the winter! Maybe it has to do with being a November baby.

I have even always found myself starting my most substantial relationships (friends or romance) this time of the year as well. I’m watching the plants around me and trying to put the time together to get out and harvest anything I can– starting with the ample goldenrod in the back yard!

Enjoy the weather, mother nature, and your children!

Good for you! I love that you’re out there pottering and working, filling up your soul before winter comes. You know we’ll be here whenever you feel the urge to share with us what you’ve been doing out in your garden! By the way, I love Tiger lilies – most lilies in fact!

Good to know you are still living your passion and purpose.
Today was a gloriously hot sunny day in England and it was hard to sit at my desk and do anything – in the end I gave up and had to go out and enjoy Mother Nature because there is a definitely chill in the air.

Hope all is well with you. I miss you in the forum :)
My daughter turns 18 next week and I sit and wonder…. where did that go!!!

Take care and enjoy
Diane
P.S. I am a November baby too…! November 5th, Fireworks night in the UK, so I am always hearing jokes about coming into the world with a bang over :)
